Position Summary

Iskalo Development is looking to add an experienced Project Architect to our award-winning, “in-house” Architecture/Interior Design Team.  Iskalo Development is a full-service Real Estate Development Company headquartered in Williamsville, NY; a suburb of Buffalo. Our diversified portfolio that includes office, retail, hospitality (hotels and restaurants), multifamily and light industrial properties.  Our award-winning projects include ground-up buildings and historic landmarks including the historic Electric Tower in downtown Buffalo. 

Under the direction of Iskalo’s Director of Architecture, Project Architects at Iskalo are assigned a variety of project types including new builds, renovations and tenant improvement projects.   The following is an outline of the Responsibilities for the Project Architect position and the desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required; Master’s Degree in Architecture preferred
  • Five to ten years’ project experience including experience in tenant improvement documents for user types such as office, medical suites and retail;
  • Project experience covering the full range of project design from Concept Development through the provision of Services during Construction and everything in-between (Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Document)
  • Professional style of verbal and written communication
  • High proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
  • Meet with internal or external customers to establish rapport and gather information regarding client needs and ideas. Research and analysis of customer’s goals, objectives, and requirements, develop documents, drawings and diagrams that outline those needs
  • Formulate preliminary plans together with 2 and 3 dimensional design concept studies and sketches that integrate the customer’s program needs, sound architectural design methods. Confirm that preliminary plans and design concepts are functional, aesthetically appropriate and meet all public health, safety, and welfare requirements including building codes, accessibility, environmental, and sustainability guidelines
  • Engage with and coordinate work to be completed by outside professional design and engineering consultants as may be necessary for a particular assignment including civil, structural, MEP and various specialty consultants
  • Aid in the selection of colors, materials and finishes to appropriately covey the design concept for the project and to meet functional, maintenance, life-cycle environmental, and safety requirements
  • Prepare/assemble complete set of construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications. Construction documents to include integration of local, state and federal building and fire codes, and any other pertinent jurisdictional statues, regulations, and guidelines applicable to the project.
  • Ensure the construction documents are signed and sealed by the Director of Architecture, and other associated design consultants as applicable to the project scope and jurisdictional requirements for filing with code enforcement officials
  • Support Iskalo Construction Management Group during bidding and construction phases
  • Provide services during construction consisting of submittal review, periodic site to ensure project is being constructed per plans and specifications
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluation reports
  • Preparation and filing of as-build drawings for the completed project for future reference
Other Responsibilities
  • Delegation of tasks and mentoring of junior architects and/or architectural interns
  • Maintain a positive image of Iskalo Development Corp. and its affiliates at all times
  • Work one-on-one with ownership group to advance assigned projects through critical stages
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills
  • High level of proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects at one time while providing timely response to all project stakeholders, ensuring projects are on time and within budget;
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail;
  • Build positive working relationships with peers and colleagues;
  • Motivated, self-starter who works well independently or as a team;
Physical Demands
  • Work performed in modern, well-lit office setting
  • Use of standard office equipment (phone, computer, copier, fax) in addition to trade tools
  • Valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle during work hours
  • Frequent local travel to job sites and affiliate properties
  • Ability to walk, bend, lift, stand, sit and work at computer for extended periods of time
